Enjoyed by steak lovers and sports fans around the country
Five minutes from Hwy. 37, the corridor through Bloomington and Monroe County, locals and visitors dine at The Colorado Steakhouse for lunch, business meetings, dinner and special occasions.
The restaurant is located within minutes of the IU Sports Complex campus, three blocks from Assembly Hall and Memorial Stadium, and is an easy walk from local lodging across the bridge of Miller-Showers City Park and downtown.
Managing partner Carl Barzilauskas attended Indiana University and later became the sixth pick in the first round of the 1974 National Football League draft by the New York Jets. Carl still holds the distinction of being the highest NFL draft choice ever taken from Indiana University. A 6’6”, 278-pound defensive lineman for the Hoosiers from 1970-1973, Carl led the team in tackles as a junior, and managed to play his entire senior season despite a broken foot. Quick for a big man, Barzilauskas immediately became a starter on the defensive line for the Jets. He was named the 1974 NFL Rookie Defensive Lineman of the Year. He played a total of five seasons with the Jets and played two additional years with the Green Bay Packers, when a neck injury forced him to retire in 1980.
Carl returned to Bloomington to raise his son, Bo and to marry his wife, Cathi. Active in the community, Carl and his partners saw an opportunity to showcase his sports memories along side the memories of so many in Bloomington.
The Colorado Steakhouse proudly displays memorabilia from Carl's playing days, his friends and foes of the NFL as well as an extensive collection of IU artifacts and collectibles of friends and visitors to the restaurant. Highlights include:
-
Team Photos of Little 500 races through the ages
-
